27 of the 28 Caspian terns that were GPS-tagged at the Goose Island – Potholes breeding colony were confirmed to have active nests (eggs or chicks) throughout the life of the tags, which ranged from 6 hours to at least 4 days; data on foraging tracks were retrieved from 23 of the 28 GPS-tagged terns; in total, 52 complete bird-days and 10 partial bird-days of data were collected from 19 and 4 GPS-tagged terns, respectively; preliminary results indicate that terns from the Goose Island colony foraged in or near Potholes Reservoir (12 tagged individuals, all confirmed breeding), on the mid-Columbia River (10 tagged individuals, all confirmed breeding), and on the Snake River (3 tagged individuals, 2 confirmed breeding and one non-breeding); this is the first confirmation that some Caspian terns nesting on Goose Island are commuting to the Snake River to forage; this is also the first confirmation that nesting Caspian terns can forage as far as 92 km from their nest site, straight-line distance
