Last boat survey of Caspian tern colony on Goose Island in Potholes Reservoir near Moses Lake, WA; adult terns and fledglings present; 293 breeding pairs produced an unknown number of young in 2008

Last boat survey of Rock Island Caspian tern colony and nearby islands in John Day pool; Rock Island Caspian tern colony included about 104 breeding pairs but experienced near total colony failure due to flooding of colony in early to mid-June; maximum of 3 young terns fledged from colony in 2008

Last boat survey of American white pelican colony on Badger Island in McNary pool, mid-Columbia River; adults and large chicks present; colony appears as large or larger than 2007

Conclusion of PIT-tagging steelhead smolts at Lower Monumental Dam on the Snake River; 7,938 steelhead PIT-tagged and scored for condition to investigate avian predation on juvenile steelhead from Snake River ESU

Final boat survey of Caspian tern colony on Twining Island in Banks Lake near Coulee City, WA; 27 breeding pairs raised at least 9 young in 2008

Final boat survey of Harper Island in Sprague Lake near Sprague, WA; 39 adult cormorants, 27 attended cormorant nests, and 16 cormorant chicks present; 4 adult Caspian terns and no young terns present; Caspian tern colony on Harper Island failed in 2008

Conclusion of PIT-tagging steelhead smolts at Ice Harbor Dam on the Snake River; 1,254 steelhead PIT-tagged and scored for condition to investigate avian predation on juvenile steelhead from the Snake River ESU
